Ramsey (Harwich) XC

Forecast is cold today (Friday), heavy rain tomorrow and then light rain Sunday. You have been warned! Having run the course last Sunday can I recommend that you use the tractor 'tramlines' whenever possible - there are a number on the course route and should reduce the chances of your shoes ending up like 70s platforms (naturally from the group 'Mud'). Whatever you do...wear fell-runners or spikes.

Best of luck all!

Re: Ramsey (Harwich) XC

Good one Graeme. It's good to see runners enjoying themselves. Two runners from Hadleigh said at the end that the course was the best cross country they had done. ' No stiles, no ditches, just good muddy fields'.

Re: Ramsey (Harwich) XC

A big thank you to everyone who must have worked really hard on Sat and Sun to get this together.
I loved it and my husband was really impressed with the organisation and the number of runners.
He even said he would probably give up another morning of archery to come to the next one. Praise indeed!!

What an excellent day.....the mud was horrendous...I felt like rubbish due to being at my work Xmas party the night before....but at the end of it all I was thrilled to have completed our XC. I think all involved should be very proud of their efforts for hosting such a good day.

Re: Ramsey (Harwich) XC

It was a real challenge yesterday for sure...from the outset when your feet got nicely dunked within 10 seconds of the start to that blasted 2nd lap of the hill that felt like complete purgatory. Colchester has Abbey Fields and Hilly Fields, perhaps we should finally christen that section Muddy Fields? Thanks for all the support round the course marshals too - lovely and as vociferous as ever. Highlight for me was seeing Dawn shouting encouragement as I was wearing the new HR leggings that she'd just handed me at the start - nice one Dawn. I hope I did 'em justice.

Great to see Sarah back too yesterday - in possibly the hardest course of the season so far. So...another great day out and one HR can, again, be proud of. Well done everyone.

PS I think Julian made it round in one piece too - thank goodness!

Re: Ramsey (Harwich) XC

Really enjoyed that yesterday (in a strange masochistic sort of way wink). I think we could have a course that now rivals Halstead for mud!! A big thank you to Morton and Trudy for letting us trample their crops once more-I'm sure come harvest time they'll be sprouting a few stray shoes in there as well as the usual crops lol It's a really good course, and the support all the way round was fantastic. Well done all involved for hosting such a good event!

Oh, and if we're having a caption contest for that photo.....
Peter: "Let's dooooo the timewarp agaaaaaaiiiiin"
Dennis: "That's it-I'm off before he starts on the "pelvic thrust" bit!!"

Re: Ramsey (Harwich) XC

Hey all - I loved it too.  I was most impressed in getting round wearing my divers boots or al least that's what my mud sodden spikes felt like.  Derek was utterly impressed with us all and like Miranda's husband he will definatley be back to support and help us out again.

Thanks again to everyone for shouting and supporting me on the way round.

See you all Tuesday smile

Re: Ramsey (Harwich) XC

Just read the report from Peter G and saw that this was Claire's first XC - well done to her and definitely a baptism of...well...let's be honest...inglorious mud. Also good to see a new runner braving it - Peter Fraser-Hopewell. Hope this one didn't put you off too much Peter! Hadleigh is hillier but is, generally speaking, mercifully drier.

I couldn't agree more with Peter about Becky's performance Sunday - superb result. I got away to a quicker start but she persisted and caught me up over the nastiness that was lap2.

Re: Ramsey (Harwich) XC

Unfortunately, I couldn't hold you off at the finish though Gary-you came past me like a speeding bullet on that last 100m!! Doubly gutted as the 4th lady was running near you as well sad Something to work on in future I guess...

I think everyone ran well on Sunday though-this is my 4th xc season and I can honestly say that was one of the toughest events I've ever done. None of us will need nutcrackers this xmas-we'll be able to use our thighs after that! yikes
