Re: Sea Swimming Practice at Dovercourt Promenade 2010

For those interested in sea swimming to prepare for the Harwich Olympic Tri I will start training again this year towards the end of April. Much will depend on sea conditions and weather. This winter has been colder than usual so it will probably take longer for the sea to warm up again. The first few swims will most likely be in pretty cold water conditions. Normally I wear a full hood, booties and gloves until some time in May.

Re: Sea Swimming Practice at Dovercourt Promenade 2010

Went for a sea swim today - wetsuit and swim cap only, cold at first but not too bad once you get going. In fact, could have done with it a bit colder to help my still very sore marathon legs.  Will have to get one of those massage sticks, heard they're very good.

Anyone up for swim tomorrow (HT 12.20)?

Will swim Friday (28th May)  at midday. Meet at normal location. Will either do the Olympic route or the shorter round the buoys. Depends who turns up. High tide is at 12:49.

Re: Sea Swimming Practice at Dovercourt Promenade 2010

Will swim today (Sat 29th) at 13:00. Meet at normal place.

Also as the Dovercourt pool is closed I swim with the Ipswich Tri club on Saturday mornings, 09:00 to 10:00. If anyone else would like to attend let me know (warnerde@hotmail.co.uk) and I will ask on your behalf. It costs 4 per session and is held at the pool within the Ipswich Girls School, Woolveston.

Re: Sea Swimming Practice at Dovercourt Promenade 2010

Will swim on Saturday at 12:00 (high tide is 12:30). Some Olympic triathletes are travelling from Kent to attend and I expect to cycle the Olympic tri route afterwards. We will meet in the normal place (Opposite the yellow buoys). Depending on demand, I expect to swim the full 1,650m course. The weather forecast looks good and the sea temperature is quite reasonable now.

Re: Sea Swimming Practice at Dovercourt Promenade 2010

Will swim tomorrow (Thursday 24th) around 11:00. Meet at usual place. I have a meeting with Harwich Police at 10:00 to finalise the triathlon policing so may arrive a little early or late depending on how many issued need to be sorted. Plan to swim at least 1,500m from east or west depending on wind and waves.
